ILLES D’ART RESIDENCE

Selected artists

MAR VILLEYRA REDONDO (Menorca)

She is a multidisciplinary artist and curator. She works with digital and analog photography, printed images, video installations and experimental writing to articulate and manipulate the generated materials and give them new expressive forms. She also often uses other analog materials such as the fax or the etching press to transform the image and experiment with the results of obsolete machines.

Her artistic premise is based on the idea of transforming digital immateriality into tangible and sensitive results, which cross the body and allow the configuration of new narratives about collective memory and fiction as a tool of signification.

Mar Villeyra studied the University Degree in Arts and Design in the mention of Art at Escola Massana (2023) and, subsequently, she studied the Postgraduate in Exhibitions, Curatorship and Design at EINA (2024). She is currently studying the Master’s Degree in Cultural Management at the UOC.

In recent years, she has participated in various group exhibitions such as “Capicua” (2023, La Capella, Barcelona), “Sobretaula” (2023, Fabra i Coats, Barcelona), “Galets al Galliner” (2023, El Corralito CCA, Terrassa) and “Àvies” (2024, Centre de Cultura de Dones Francesca Bonnemaison, Barcelona). The most recent exhibition has been “Vida Muerte / Muerte Vida (Poéticas del Caos)” at Ática Art Gallery (Maó).

As a curator, she has made different exhibitions such as “1998” by Kenjiro (2023, Convent de San Diego, Alaior), “Enfant Terrible & Donde Mueren los Días” by Kenjiro (2024, Fabrica40, Maó) and, together with Tomeu Sánchez, the group exhibition “Contemporánea 2025” (Ática Art Gallery, Maó).

JORDI CÁRDENAS (Menorca)

His artistic practice is based on painting and drawing as ways to create images with personal and social implications with an absurd, ironic and romantic point of view.

In the pictorial field he has always looked for ways to subvert tradition, avoiding the abuse of seriousness and solemnity of the painting of the last centuries and giving it a generous dose of sense of humor. He is also interested in other technical procedures such as muralism and sculpture, which allow him to expand his work and find other expressive forms.

Jordi Cárdenas has been trained in drawing, painting and wall applied arts in different schools such as Academia Carmen de Los Llanos (2016, Barcelona) or the Escuela superior de arte y diseño Llotja (2017, Barcelona) and with different professionals such as Miguel Gómez Losada (2022, Fresco Arte, Madrid) or Vincent Desiderio (2023, Quarantine Events, Menorca), among others.

He has exhibited in different group exhibitions such as “Contemporánea 25” (2025, Ática Gallery, Maó), “25th birthday The Reynolds Foundation” (2022, Maó) or “Culturele Supermarkt” (2020, Roodkapje, Rotterdam), among others. Of the individual exhibitions, “Tan romàntic com precari” in Sala Sant Antoni (2024, Maó) stands out. In addition, his work has received various awards and grants for creation and training, and also has work on deposit in Khroma Gallery, Artara Gallery and Vidrart.
