RESIDENCE OF SOUND CREATION ARTS AL NORD ’23

Selected Artist

CHARO MARTÍN

Teacher of “Cante flamenco” at the CSM Rafael Orozco in Córdoba. Her professional activity has as its guiding theme the study of the Flamenco classical repertoire and its re-interpretation.

She has a Bachelor of Music degree, speciality “Cante Flamenco” (ESMUC, Barcelona), in Spanish Philology (UNED) and Diploma in Advanced Flamenco Studies (University of Seville). Among her productions are Para-Das (Cita con las músicas, Sevilla, 2011), Improversátiles alongside Alexis Díaz-Pimienta (2015-2019), and among the collaborations Lirio entre Espinas by Guillermo Weickert (2013), El sol cuando es de noche (2014) and Las Procesiones by Pedro G. Romero (2016), Droguita del esperticio for Carne de Canción, by Laila Tafur and Flamingos, by Albert Quesada.

As an artist, she researches the possibilities of the flamenco voice body, sound space, and its poetics through improvisation and performance. This is the thematic axis of her current creations.

For the Arts al Nord residence she proposes to stimulate vocal language and enrich the performance actions with a site-specific treatment, interacting with the specific physical and sound landscape of Menorca. Flamenco sound elements will be explored, experimenting with technologies and effects to expand sound language, letting sounds and oral musical forms of the environment enter, such as “glosses”.
