Laia Estruch (Barcelona 1981), graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona (2010). He completed his last year of degree at The Cooper Union University (New York, 2010). His artistic practice is part of the framework of performance and sculpture from where he investigates the language of the body and the voice. Using spoken word, song, objects and publications, his projects analyse the emotional possibilities of the a cappella voice by opening a space for reflection on the performative nature of the sound register and the oral archive.

She has presented her projects at the Cultural Centre of Spain Mexico CCEMx (2020); Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona MACBA (2022); PUBLICS, Helsinki (2022); Hauser & Wirth Menorca (2023); Biennial Art Paiz XXIII (2023); Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya MNAC (2023); ElPatio by Zona Maco, Baja California Mexico (2024); Triennal de Kortrijk, Belgium (2024); and the Museo Nacional de Arte Contempor Contemporanineo Reina Sofia, Madrid (2025), among other spaces.

The voice, aerial and spiritual body, the most performative body I know. It is created, born in each inhalation, has a certain duration linked to our breathing, with movements and gestures lacking gravity, and dies, ends, in each exhalation.

The workshop is conceived as a performative laboratory from which to investigate the phenomena related to the voice within contemporary art. A workshop in which to explore and discover the unknown and imaginary voices that live in each of us to approach the knowledge of the voice as raw material, instrument, device and space for experimentation of artistic proposals that investigate the aerial conditions and the emotional possibilities of the performative voice.

The sessions will delve into various ways of training the aerial body of the voice in relation to our physical body, to explore what spaces the voice can occupy to create sound territories beyond words.

Starting from our voices as material, we will work on orality and listening in a different way than we are used to undertaking unknown trips between their echoes. We will enter into a process of recognition and listening to the sounds of the voices inside and outside our body and also within the body of words, to discover new landscapes.

The workshop is also conceived as an open space for common learning, where the voice is thought of as space, travel, body, time, textures, speed, light, depth, darkness. We do not judge the voice, it surprises us and proposes a place of encounter, of liberation and healing, the voice strips us. We will seek coexistence through the encounter of our voices so that they meet, circulate, recognize each other, change their dimensions, together.

We will enter into a joint creation process about the magic of the voice and its capacities of surprise and deception that it possesses, a work that brings us closer to illusionism, making objects, bodies, places appear and disappear, through mysterious and surprising vocal tricks from disinhibition and joint and individual experimentation, letting the voices appear and disappear, sound and stop sounding at the same time as we are forming a new choral sound territory, between totis.
