JÚLIA CATALÀ BENEJAM

Born in Ciutadella, Menorca, in 1991, Júlia Català Benejam has lived in Barcelona for seventeen years. She holds a degree in Catalan Philology, a master’s degree in Advanced Studies in Catalan Language and Literature, and in Cultural Management, and a PhD in Linguistic, Literary and Cultural Studies with the dissertation La poesia neomística of Joan Vinyoli. Una Lectura of Llibre d’amic and Cants d’Abelone. Since 2016 she has worked at the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes.

 

She has written articles for journals and media such as Reduccions, Veus baixes, Haidé, El Procés, Catorze Cultura, and for the “Bèsties” series published by Edicions Poncianes, and has attended courses and workshops at the Escola Bloom, the Fundació Joan Brossa – Centre de les Arts Lliures, Llibreria Finestres, and Llibreria No Llegiu.

She has been the winner and finalist of several literary awards, including the Francesc de Borja Moll Prize, the Contarella Children’s Literature Prize, Ficcions, and the Illa de Menorca Short Story Prize in the category for writers under 25.

She is currently a member of the selection committee for the Òmnium Prize for Best Novel of the Year, is working on the critical edition of The Complete Poetic Works of Mercè Rodoreda together with Dr. Marina Gustà, and is developing a first novel after receiving a literary creation grant from the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics.
